There’s more than one smart phone on the market. And these others will soon bring the full internet to your hand. Why wait to get a device that only shows a portion of the web? Why not go get one that will let you browse the entire web?
I decided to make a response to a recent set of “demos” of HTML5 but for The Flash Platform.
You can check it out here.
It’s really easy to create a pure AS3 AIR project in Flash Builder 4!
Here’s the steps in text format:
1. Create New. Either File>New>Flex Project or you can right click in the Package Explorer > New>Flex Project
2. Application Type of Desktop (runs in Adobe AIR), give your project a name and click Next
3. Change or leave the Output Folder, and click Next
4. In the Main application file text field change your .mxml file to .as file
5. Click Finish
Get to Flashing! Have Fun!
AIR Windows have a Shrinkage problem.
A little less than couple years ago I first noticed a small little issue with AIR windows. At first, I thought nothing of it. It didn’t really bother me because it wasn’t really noticeable. Then, a few months ago I started working on a little pet project that involved docking an AIR window to any side of the screen. That little issue that I noticed back in 2007 crept back up. “OK, there’s something wrong.” I told myself, then just stopped working on that project all together.
But today I was playing around with some windows in AIR and that same little problem was so noticeable I got pissed. AIR Windows shrink. Older AIR Windows (built on 1.5.3 and earlier) actually scale on both X and Y. WTF? So I asked the Twitterverse if it was a “bug” or a “feature.” There wasn’t a consensus but plenty of good feedback. See the following video: (more…)
After writing this very lengthy comment on Brother Chuck Freeman’s (@ChuckStar) blog post responding to Brother Kevin Suttle’s (@kevinSuttle) excelent blog post regarding AIR and Mobile devices, I thought I should really post here on my own blog and #keeptheblogchainalive as Kevin says. There are a great deal of questions regarding AIR and Mobile devices, and I have had a few rolling around in my brain for some time. Be sure to read Kevin’s post then Chuck’s post, and you’ll get all the context.
Adobe is pushing mobile devices in great new directions. First announced was Flash Player 10.1 concept on devices, then the iPhone packager with the upcoming CS5. But today, Adobe goes one step further with building AIR for Android devices (and quite probably more).
Since moving to the Mobile and Devices Group at Smashing Ideas we have started to implement scrum/Agile development style project flows on a few projects. We have also been looking for an application that can assist in such but have yet to find anything of any value.
Adobe has been working on an AIR app called Work Flow Lab that looks to be pretty promising. The .9 beta release of WFL has quite a bit of the features we have been looking for, but as of this release, still lacks in some of the features that would make this app truly useful. This is a beta application, though, so hopefully it can be expanded.
In any case, keep an eye on WFL. I have a feeling it will be an useful tool for project development in the future.
Also watch Doug Winnie’s Adobe blog for updated information on WFL.
I’m going to try to do a screencast of this as soon as I can.
SoClean – A simple AIR app for clearing local shared objects out of your main Flash lso storage. Works on Mac OSX, WinXP, Vista. (not sure about Win7 yet).
If you are working on a browser-based Flash project that utilizes local shared objects, use SoClean to quickly clear them, then just refresh your page.
**Beware, SoClean will clear out ALL shared objects.**
I have been incredibly excited about the release of AIR 2.0. Unfortunately, like a lot of people, I’m not on the private beta. Here are several links of great information on AIR 2.0 from people who know what they’re talking about.
